Kawashimaya And Makuhari Brewery Established "Chiba Upcycling Lab" With the Aim of Reducing Food Loss

Makuhari Brewery uses the unsold bread from
Kawashimaya as ingredients to make bread beer.
Kawashimaya, headquartered in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, and headed by president Takahiro Kawashima, which operates about 20 bakeries in Chiba Prefecture, and Makuhari Brewery, headquartered in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, and headed by president Kei Tashiro, have recently established the "Chiba Upcycling Lab" with the aim of reducing food loss.

And they launched the "Bread Beer Development Project". The term "upcycling" refers to the creation of new products that are different from the products that have been used to make the new products, while recycling involves using reused materials to make the same products as reused ones.

The project was launched on the crowdfunding site "Campfire. The project will be funded in part by money collected from supporters on the crowdfunding site. Makuhari Brewery will use the unsold bread from Kawashimaya as ingredients to make bread beer, and see if it can gain the support of consumers.

Kawashimaya and Makuhari Brewery will "conduct a variety of tests through this project to identify issues and solutions for commercialization, and to verify whether the production and sale of bread beer can be a sustainable business model.
